Gemz: frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions players ask most about Gemz. If yours is not here, write to hello@free-consciousness.org.
Getting started
Is Gemz free?
Yes. Gemz is free to download and play. It offers optional in-app purchases, jewel packs and the Ad-Free Pack, and it shows ads, most of them rewarded ads that you choose to watch in exchange for a bonus.
Which devices can I play on?
Gemz is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android devices running Android 7.0 or later. The game plays in portrait orientation. The apps are the complete version of the game: the Events page, the Ad-Free Pack and jewel packs are only available there.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play right away as a guest, and your progress is saved on your device. Signing in with Google, Apple or Facebook is optional; it backs up your progress so you can restore it after reinstalling the game or on another device.
Which languages does Gemz support?
English, French, Spanish and Thai. You can switch at any time under Language in the game's settings.
Progress and accounts
How do I move my progress to a new phone?
Sign in with the same Google, Apple or Facebook account on both devices. Your progress is backed up to your account and comes back when you sign in. As a guest, your progress is tied to the device you play on and can't be moved to another one, and clearing the app's data erases it, so sign in before you switch phones.
What happens if I sign out?
Signing out resets the game on that device. Your progress stays saved on your account and comes back when you sign in again.
Can I reset my progress or delete my account?
Yes, both are in the settings. Reset progress puts your level, gems, boxes, coins and jewels back to zero, as if you had just installed the game, but keeps your account. Delete account permanently removes your account, your progress and your leaderboard entries; it requires being signed in, since a guest has no account to delete. Neither can be undone. You can also ask for deletion by writing to hello@free-consciousness.org.
Playing the game
Why is the START button locked on some levels?
Forty-five of the 200 levels require a prepared gem mix: a number of gems at a minimum level, a gem of a certain rarity, or one specific gem equipped. The level screen shows the requirement, and the Change mix button takes you to your gems. See boss levels and mix requirements.
When do the Events and the Champion's League open?
The Events page opens at the Bronze rank, level 6, in the iOS and Android apps. The Champion's League opens once you complete level 200. Both are described in Modes & events.
What are coins and jewels for?
Coins level up your gems and buy things like extra hold slots and power-ups. Jewels are the premium currency: you spend them in the shop, on tickets, on continues, or to open a jewel box without waiting.
How can I earn jewels without paying?
Jewels come from level rewards, the daily challenges and daily streak, the Wheel of Fortune, Champion's League rewards, the welcome-back gift and the shop's free daily gift. Jewel boxes themselves pay out coins and gems rather than jewels.
Purchases and ads
What can I buy?
In the iOS and Android apps you can buy jewel packs and the Ad-Free Pack. Payments go through the App Store or Google Play, and a product is only shown if your country's store offers it. Everything else in the game, such as boxes, power-ups and hold slots, is bought with coins or jewels.
What does the Ad-Free Pack include?
It is a one-time purchase that skips all ads while keeping every reward they would have given you. It also adds 2,400 jewels and 200,000 coins when you buy it, and 50 free jewels every day after that.
How do I restore a purchase?
Use Restore purchases in the settings. The Ad-Free Pack is tied to your App Store or Google Play account and can be restored. Jewel packs are credited the moment you buy them, so there is nothing to restore for them.
What ads does Gemz show?
Mostly rewarded ads that you choose to watch: to continue when no piece fits, to double some rewards, to claim the shop's free daily gift, to take 30 minutes off a box timer, for an extra spin of the wheel or an extra event ticket. Some players may also see an ad between games. On iOS, the game asks your permission before any tracking used for personalised ads, and where privacy rules require it, the settings include an Ad privacy options button to review your consent choices.
Are the odds of boxes and the wheel published?
Yes. The shop lists the drop rates of every jewel box, and the Wheel of Fortune has a button to see its odds, which are the same whether you spin for free, with an ad or with jewels.
Privacy and support
What data does Gemz collect?
Your progress is saved on your device. So that every player can appear on the leaderboard, the game can also create an anonymous guest profile online: a random identifier, an automatic display name, your game save and your best scores, with no personal details. If you sign in, your email address and display name are added so your account works. With your consent, the game also measures how it is used, anonymously, and you can decline. Ads in the apps are served by Google AdMob. Everything is detailed in the Gemz Privacy Policy, and the rules of the game are in the Terms of Service.
Is my name shown to other players?
Your display name and best scores appear on the global leaderboard; your email address never does. You can rename yourself at any time, with up to 14 characters.
