Game modes and events in Gemz
Around the 200-level ladder, Gemz runs a weekly tournament, a Champion's League for players who finish the ladder, an Events page with daily and permanent challenges, monthly seasons and a monthly Meteor Shower. Here is how each one works. Tournament, league and event days follow UTC time.
The level ladder
The main mode of Gemz is a ladder of 200 levels. Each level asks for a target score in 8 scoring moves (4 on boss levels), and every level you clear gives a reward and moves you along the ranks, from Wood to Diamond. The rules and the scoring formula are explained in How to play. The ladder also feeds two other modes: every level you clear earns stars for the weekly tournament, and finishing level 200 opens the Champion's League.
The weekly tournament
A tournament lasts one week and restarts every Monday, when everyone goes back to the first division. Each day is a separate pool: your stars start from zero, you are ranked in your division's pool for 24 hours, and when the day closes, the players in the promotion zone move up a division.
| Division | Pool size | Moving up |
|---|---|---|
| Rookie | 100 | Top 75 |
| Contender | 75 | Top 50 |
| Advanced | 50 | Top 25 |
| Expert | 25 | Top 10 |
| Elite | 10 | The top division |
Stars come from the ladder levels you clear during the day:
| For each level | Stars |
|---|---|
| Level cleared | 10 |
| Target beaten by more than 50% (instead of the 10) | 15 |
| Target more than doubled (instead of the 10) | 20 |
| No power-up used | +3 |
| Each scoring move left | +1 |
| Combo: per step of your best combo | +2, up to +14 |
| Clean Sweep | +3 |
| Win streak: per level won in a row before this one | +10, up to +50 |
Rewards are paid when the day closes: tournament boxes (Small, Big or Mega) for the best places and coins further down, with bigger prizes in higher divisions. The top three of each pool also win a cosmetic item, and in the Elite division during a season, that item is the week's season piece.
The Champion's League
Complete level 200 and the ladder gives way to the Champion's League. A league run lasts three minutes with unlimited moves. You can play as many runs as you like, and only your best score of the day counts.
- Fifteen tiers. Master, Champion and Grand Master, each with five divisions from V up to I.
- Daily promotion. Each day you are ranked in a pool of 100, and the promotion zone narrows as you climb: the top 85 move up from a division V, the top 60 from IV, the top 35 from III, the top 22 from II and the top 11 from I.
- Daily rewards. Your tier and place decide the day's prize, from coins to jewel boxes and jewels. The league screen lists what every place earns.
- Monthly seasons. A league season lasts a calendar month, and standings stay hidden until it closes. Then everything is revealed: everyone receives a season chest for their tier, and in Grand Master the three best combined scores of each pool (the sum of your best daily runs) win extra prizes, the first earning the title of Grand Champion.
- Mystery chest. Every five league runs earn a chest drawn at random.
- Fair play. There are no continues, and power-ups are capped per run: up to 5 Rewinders, 4 Bombs, 3 Line Erasers, 2 Pop Blocks and 1 Purifier.
The Events page
Events live on their own page in the iOS and Android apps and open when you reach the Bronze rank, at level 6. Every attempt costs one ticket. You can hold up to 5 tickets and get a new one every 30 minutes; when you run out, you can watch an ad for an extra ticket, up to five a day, or buy tickets with jewels. Challenge levels use the same 8-scoring-move budget as the ladder, except timed challenges, where the clock is the only limit. If an attempt fails, your progress in the challenge is kept. Challenges that only deal certain shapes don't allow the hold slot.
The daily challenge
One challenge a day, the same for everyone, with one try per day and a daily box as its reward. It rotates between five formats, so two days in a row are never the same:
- Blitz: ninety seconds, not one more.
- Marathon: four minutes to build something big.
- Bars Only: straight pieces of three and four blocks, nothing else.
- Blocks Only: squares and rectangles, which fill the board fast.
- Small Change: tiny pieces only, where precision beats power.
Always-on challenges
These stay on the page until you finish them, and new ones appear as you climb the ladder. Each has its own track of rewards.
- Small Change (from the Bronze rank, 8 levels): only small pieces are dealt, singles, short bars and the 2×2 square.
- Trio (from level 11, 8 levels): only your three strongest equipped gems are dealt.
- Master of [gem] (from level 16, 8 levels): only one gem is dealt, picked among the gems you own and changed every Monday. Targets are tougher, and the rewards include copies of that gem.
- Duo (from level 21, 8 levels): only your two strongest gems are dealt.
- Solo Gem (from level 31, 8 levels): only your strongest gem is dealt, for the best rewards of the three mix challenges.
- Time Trial (from level 51, 12 levels): two minutes on the clock per attempt, with no move limit.
Seasons
Starting in October 2026, Gemz introduces monthly seasons. Each season has its own name, artwork and featured gem, and a set of 18 collectible pieces: 12 block styles (two of each rarity from Common to Exotic), two wallpapers (one Legendary, one Mythic), two music tracks and two avatars. Most of the set is earned through three activities:
- The Season Event on the Events page, held on the second weekend of the month for 72 hours, from Friday 00:00 UTC. It has 27 levels played with a fixed set of shapes (squares, bars and big blocks), and its reward track mixes coins, jewels, power-ups, jewel boxes up to a Mythic box, copies of the featured gem and seven season block styles, ending with the season's Mythic wallpaper.
- Season missions. Every daily challenge objective you claim during the month counts as a mission, and rewards unlock at 25, 50 and 75 missions: a block style, then a wallpaper, then a music track. The count starts again from zero with each new season.
- The weekly tournament. Finishing on the Elite podium can win that week's season piece, an avatar or one of the rarest block styles of the set.
The Meteor Shower
On the fourth weekend of every month, for 72 hours from Friday 00:00 UTC, meteorites sealed in a dark crust fall onto the board during ladder levels and Champion's League runs. It is part of the Events page, so it happens in the apps once you have reached the Bronze rank.
- Collecting. Clear the line that holds a meteorite to collect it. You can collect up to five a day. A meteorite only falls when you still have room to collect it: at least 12 empty cells and, on the ladder, at least 3 scoring moves left (30 seconds in the league).
- Cracking. Open the Meteor Shower card and tap a crust to crack it. Each tap removes an amount that grows with your gem mix's Power, and every crust has its own hardness: a starting mix needs thousands of taps, the strongest mixes around a hundred. You can have several crusts started at once.
- The reward. Inside is one of the eight meteorite gems (Moldavite, Pallasite, Gibeon, Libyan Glass, Allende Chondrite, Sikhote-Alin, Lunar Meteorite or Martian Meteorite), either a new gem for your collection or an extra copy. Crusts you haven't opened by the end of the weekend wait for the next shower.
Each shower is named after the real meteor shower of its month, from the Quadrantids in January to the Geminids in December, and August's Perseids double the daily limit. The gem guide describes each meteorite's profile.
Daily rewards
- Daily challenges. Three objectives a day, such as playing three games or clearing forty lines. Each pays coins when you claim it, and completing all three adds a bonus of 8 jewels, which a rewarded ad can double.
- Daily streak. Completing your three daily challenges on consecutive days builds a seven-day streak worth 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 jewels, plus 20 jewels for a perfect week.
- Wheel of Fortune. One free spin a day; more spins cost 40 jewels or a rewarded ad. The prizes change every day, and the odds, which you can check in the game, are the same for every spin.
- Free daily gift. Once a day, the shop's daily offers include a free reward for watching an ad: 5 jewels, 200 coins or a Common box, depending on the day.
- Welcome back. Return after three days or more away and you get 400 coins and 5 jewels.
